On GivingTuesday – November 28, 2023 – the whole world comes together to give back in many different ways: through acts of kindness, gifts of voice, time, talent, or treasure.

Through your past generosity we have been able to accomplish the following:
A new barn was constructed to house the rescues. The new barn is 60x100 and will be furnished with a sensory sensitive therapy room for individuals to have interactions with the animals in a controlled and calming environment
In 2022 we received intake calls for 577 animals. We were able to place 90% of the animals that we were contacted about.
Through community outreach and partnerships, Whispering Acres assisted several local humane societies by taking in farm animals. We have animals from Stark county SPCA, Medina SPCA, Friendship APL, City dogs, Cleveland APL, Middleburg heights Animal Shelter, and the Parma Animal Shelter.
We assisted in a rescue with Barn Sanctuary in which we rescued 2 sheep that were running through a field in Michigan for 2 months and were extremely sick. They are thriving and loving their fresh feed and naps in the sun.
Farm Sanctuary brought us a goat from Purdue University. We were able to get him walking again and loving life.
In 2023, The sanctuary took in animals for 8 different states and even 2 from British Columbia.
We helped 8 victims of domestic violence by taking in their animals so that they can seek safety. We are currently fostering 11 animals for these individuals until they can safely take them back.
The Sanctuary has been blessed with so much generosity that we have been able to donate food, personal care supplies and merchandise to Cups Cafe, The VFW halls in Strongsville, Brunswick and Medina, York Food Bank, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, local churches and outreach ministries as well as many other sanctuaries in the area.
Currently, we have 277 animals in our program. At the sanctuary, we house our permanent residents that have complex medical conditions that require specialized nutrition, daily medications, and close veterinary care. Adoptable animals are placed with foster homes until they can be adopted out to new loving families.
In 2023 we were able to place 83 animals in new loving families.
We still have a lot of projects to do and many animals to save.
Our upcoming expenses include:
Running electric and water to the barn. Estimated $30,000
Feeding the animals: We go through approximately 1 ton of hay every 10 days. Yes, you read that right, we go though a literal ton of hay every 10 days. Yearly hay costs are approximately $14,000 Grain for all of the animals is custom blended to supplement the nutritional requirements of our animals. We feed 75 pounds of grain daily. Each 50 pound bag costs $22.00. and amounts to roughly $13,000 a year.
Veterinary expenses: Animals at the sanctuary receive expert veterinary care. Many are on medications on a daily basis. Our veterinary team visits the animals weekly and in emergency situations.
Farrier expenses: Our farrier visits us every 6 weeks. Each visit is approximately $200.00
